What is a dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are injected to restore volume & structure in the face.

How does it work & what can I expect?

At Elmsleigh House we use the products Restylane© and/or Teosyal. Restylane© is a clear gel which is based on hyaluronic acid, which is similar to the body’s own. Hyaluronic Acid is the substance naturally present in our cells which keeps the skin smooth and supple. Teosyal is also based on Hyaluronic Acid and is used for deep lines.

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane© is non-animal which means that no skin tests are needed and that there is a minimal risk of allergic reactions. A small amount of Restylane© is injected through a fine needle into your skin to fill wrinkles, add volume, shape your face or lips or revitalise your skin. A topical local anaesthetic cream is used in all cases.

The results of a non-permanent dermal filler are generally longer-lasting than an anti wrinkle treatment such as Botox giving you the freedom of choice to maintain the effect. A treatment with Restylane© will can last between 6-12 months. To maintain the results in the lips, a re-treatment is usually needed within 6 months.

It is normal to experience some post-treatment discomfort, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the treatment site. This typically subsides after a few days but sometimes can last for longer. It is advisable to return for a top-up treatment to achieve optimal and lasting results.

How can I book an appointment & what happens?

We advise an initial face-to face consultation lasting approx 20 minutes where we will discuss your wishes and plan which filler will be most suitable for you. Each dermal filler is priced differently as it depends on the grade of filler for the depth of the wrinkle.

A treatment can then be booked - all treatments take approximately 45 minutes.

You can choose to have the consultation and treatment separately or of course, book them together to save time!
